Fender benders

Today the group drove back up the Hana highway to Lahaina. Once they got back to the western side of the island, Kimbie's cell service returned and she exchanged a lot of text messages with Angela, plus she sent this really great picture of herself. Just a little while ago (a little before 4 pm Hawaii time) they arrived in Lahaina. They'll be staying at the 110-year-old historic Pioneer Inn, which is right on the waterfront. Kimbie says the hotel is a "palace" compared to the last place they were.

The chaperones must be getting weary because today there were a couple of minor incidents with the vans. The driver of the van that Kimbie was riding in backed into something and popped out one of the rear windows (see photo). That van had to be replaced. Later, one of the vans backed into another one of the group's vans but didn't cause any serious damage. Tomorrow they rise very, very early for the sunrise hike, but hopefully on Sunday the drivers can get a good rest.

The Scotchguard treatment on Kimbie's suitcase was tested today, as it rained on them while it was strapped to the top of the van. Her clothes arrived in good condition, so the Scotchguard must have worked.
