Hana

We had a brief message from Kimbie at about 9 this morning Hawaii time, and have not heard from her since then. Apparently the cell phone service is still pretty marginal. The place where they are staying sounds kind of marginal, too. Kimbie reported that there were lizards and cockroaches in the room. I think she's going to have a newfound appreciation for her own bed when she gets back home. The natural surroundings are spectacular, though. This is a picture of a black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park where they stopped for a while yesterday. Today and tomorrow they were scheduled to do lots of hiking, snorkeling and tide pooling. Coming up on Saturday morning (after they move to Lahaina) is a 2:00 am wake-up for a hike up Maui's highest peak, Haleakalā (elevation 10,023 feet), to watch the sunrise. Later that same day is an optional 11 mile hike. Sunday morning, for the first time in a long time, they get to sleep in, with nothing scheduled until 2 pm.
